Manchester United goalkeeper Ramsey handed late England call-up

Manchester United goalkeeper Emily Ramsey has received a late call-up to the England squad for this week’s training camp at Bisham Abbey.

The 20-year-old Salford-born stopper has been called into head coach Hege Riise’s squad in place on Manchester City goalkeeper Karen Bardsley who is struggling with an injury which she sustained last week whilst playing for loan club OL Reign.

Ramsey’s call-up and Bardsley’s withdrawal were confirmed by The Football Association via an official press release this afternoon. It has also been revealed that Manchester United forward Ella Toone has not reported for training after testing positive for COVID-19. She will instead stay in self-isolation at home.

England’s training camp at Bisham Abbey started yesterday and will last for six days. The Lionesses will not contest any friendly fixtures during the current international window, head coach Riise will simply use the time on the training field to assess her players.

In total, 20 players will now attend the training camp with the vast majority having also been named in Riise’s 18-player squad for this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo. Manchester United’s Ramsey is one of five goalkeepers named in the camp, Ellie Roebuck (Manchester City), Sandy MacIver (Everton), Carly Telford (Chelsea) and Hannah Hampton (Birmingham City) being the others.
