Birmingham City defender Sarah Mayling has announced that she will not be remaining with the club next season.
The 24-year-old Sutton Coldfield-born full-back was offered a new contract by the Blues but the player has opted to move on for a fresh challenge.
Mayling announced her departure in an emotional post on her personal Twitter account earlier today.
I feel now is the right time to leave Birmingham. I’m grateful for all the experiences I have gained and lessons I have learnt. Most of all thankful to have worked with the best people, some of which will be friends for life. Appreciate the fans for there support throughout. pic.twitter.com/44kpZx6G0w

Mayling was one of 13 players offered contracts for the coming season with Birmingham City. The player is the second to reject the offer of a new deal with England international goalkeeper Hannah Hampton having also recently announced her departure from the club.
Birmingham City signed Mayling back in 2017 after the player had started her senior career on the books of Second City rivals Aston Villa. Mayling went on to play an important role in the Birmingham City side while she represented the club at Wembley in the 2017 Women’s FA Cup final. The player featured in 18 of her side’s 21 matches in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season.
The defender will officially become a free agent when her current contract with Birmingham City expires tomorrow. Given her good performances for the Blues this season, the player should have no problem in finding a new club.
