French international full-back Sakina Karchaoui will not be joining Chelsea this summer with the player having sealed a move to Division 1 Feminine champions Paris Saint-Germain.
The 25-year-old was previously linked with a move to Kingsmeadow with the player having left Lyon this summer but her arrival at Paris Saint-Germain was announced by the club this morning.
Chelsea boss Emma Hayes is thought to have been watching the player for at least the last 12 months with Karchaoui having also been linked with The Blues last summer prior to her move from Montpellier to Lyon. If there was some truth in the speculation again pairing Chelsea with Karchaoui this summer, Hayes will now have to move on to other potential targets with the defender having committed to her new club for the next three years.
It was a difficult year for Karchaoui at Lyon. The player joined a club who were dominant both in the French game and in Europe but she moved on 12 months later with Lyon having lost their titles. The defender made 18 appearances for the club in the French Division 1 Feminine as Paris Saint-Germain ended Lyon’s league dominance while the Karchaoui featured in eight UEFA Women’s Champions League matches.
Karchaoui will now be challenged to help her new club remain at the top of the French game, a difficult task given Lyon’s summer recruitment so far.
