PREVIEW: Leicester City v Manchester City

Manchester City will look to confirm their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup when they travel to The Pirelli Stadium to face Leicester City on Wednesday.

The Cityzens top their group on goal difference with just one game left to play meaning that a positive result against struggling Leicester City should see them through.

New Leicester City manager Lydia Bedford saw her side lose 4-0 at Arsenal on Sunday in her first match in charge. The Foxes had Jemma Purfield sent-off at Meadow Park meaning that she will be suspended for the Manchester City fixture while Kirstie Levell, Hannah Cain, Lachante Paul and Connie Scofield remain sidelined through injury. Jess Sigsworth picked up a knock against Arsenal but could be fit to play while the condition of Abbie McManus and Paige Bailey-Gayle is unknown.

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor found himself without 10 players as The Cityzens won 3-2 at Birmingham City on Sunday. Long term absentees Ellie Roebuck, Karen Bardsley, Esme Morgan,  Steph Houghton and Chloe Kelly remain sidelined and they were joined by Demi Stokes (illness), Jill Scott (knock), Lucy Bronze (test and trace), Keira Walsh and Janine Beckie (both COVID-19) at St Andrew’s. Jess Park was named on the bench despite feeling unwell while Hayley Raso played but now has a groin injury. It is unknown whether Taylor will have any additional players available for the trip to Leicester City.

The FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixture between Leicester City and Manchester City kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening. Tickets are available now and can be purchased by clicking here.
