Birmingham City interim head coach Darren Carter says that his side can go and ask questions of latest opponents Arsenal at St Andrew’s this afternoon.
The Blues are bottom of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table while visitors Arsenal are four points clear at the top. The Gunners have won their last five league meetings with Birmingham City.
When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of the match, Birmingham City boss Carter said that Arsenal have weaknesses and his side have identified areas where they can ask questions of their opponents.
“I think that every team has weaknesses,” Carter said. “Arsenal are a team that play very expansive and are very good with the ball, they rotate, especially in the middle area of the pitch so you have to focus on the out of possession stuff.
“I think we can identify a couple of things in possession where we can go and ask them a question. The games I have watched, Arsenal have dominated the ball, dominated games but at times, you can potentially go at them a little bit.
“My philosophy is that I will never be a manager who wants to sit in and soak up pressure, I want to be on the front-foot and want us to impose ourselves on any opposition.
“We definitely think that we have identified areas that we can really cause a problem for them.”
Birmingham City defender Louise Quinn will come up against her former employers this afternoon and Carter went on to say that her experience and knowhow of the Arsenal team could be crucial for his side.
He said “I think Skip (Quinn) is our leader and she is our vocal leader as well. We like to involve her and the other experienced players in the game plan and get their feedback as well. Any inside knowledge that we can gain from her is more than welcome.
“Lou is going to be huge for us going into the second half of the season, her experience and just how she leads the team, not just the younger players.
“Everybody knows the Arsenal players, they are household names and the older ones will know about the likes of Nikita Parris, Beth Mead and Viv Miedema. We know an awful lot about them anyway but we will definitely need to lean on our experienced players.”
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Birmingham City and Arsenal kicks-off at 2pm.
