Bristol City defender Flo Allen has announced that she will retire from professional football at the end of the season.
The 22-year-old has been playing football for the last 16 years while she has been with Bristol City since 2015. Allen has made the decision to step back from the professional game in a bid to pursue other interests. The news was announced via a post on Bristol City’s official website this evening.
In her early days with Bristol City, Allen helped the club to promotion to the top flight while she was a member of the squad which reached a first FA Women’s Continental League Cup final in the 2020/2021 season. The defender has made more than 50 league appearances in her time with The Robins.
Speaking following the announcement, Allen said “I really want to thank the club as I have been able to develop as a player and a person. I have so many fond memories and my time here will always be special. I’ll always have a deep love for this club. I want to thank all the current and previous managers, players, coaching staff and most importantly, the fans. They have made my time here very special.”
The player will look to help Bristol City end the season in second place in the FA Women’s Championship table. The Robins host London City Lionesses tomorrow before travelling to Sunderland on the final day.
