Everton targeting a good run in the FA Cup says Sørensen

Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that his side are hoping to enjoy a good run in this season’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

The Blue Girls begin their participation in this season’s competition with a home fixture against second tier side Birmingham City in the fourth round on Sunday.

Everton were runners-up three seasons ago and manager Sørensen wants the club to enjoy plenty of cup magic once again this season

“We don’t currently have the team or budget to compete for league titles but a cup run, you can always do well,” Sørensen said when speaking in the pre-match press conference.

“If you get Arsenal in the next round and then Chelsea after that, it is going to be hard of course, but that’s why the cup is so fascinating, you can meet teams that you don’t usually play. On the day, if it is a really good team that you are playing, you can do something.

“We will try to do the very best that we can and look to go as far as possible, that’s the plan.”

Everton’s fourth round opponents Birmingham City have been inconsistent this season. Sørensen believes that the Blues will give his side a game but ultimately, Everton will be taking things very seriously.

He said “They are going to be difficult to play against. They have a lot of experience in the team so we will prepare as normal.

“Looking back to our Conti Cup fixtures, it was not a priority for us, we wanted to see all of the players and some academy players whereas in the FA Cup, we will try to do the very best that we can and we will play the strongest team available.”
