Brighton & Hove Albion sign Australian full-back Rule

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of full-back Charlize Rule from Liberty A-League Women club Sydney FC.

The Seagulls announced news of their latest addition via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Rule has played for Sydney FC since the 2020/2021 season. She did have a brief spell with Sydney Olympic in 2022 before spending last season back with Sydney FC. The defender made 21 appearances for the club as they won the 2022/2023 Liberty A-League Women title.

On the international stage, Rule has represented Australia at various youth levels but she is still awaiting her senior debut for The CommBank Matildas.

After securing Rule’s services for Brighton & Hove Albion, head coach Melissa Phillips said “She is an exciting young player with a lot of ambition in the game and we look forward to welcoming her into our squad.

“Her recent success in Australia will help carry momentum into the squad as we prepare for another season, but we also believe she can further develop as a young player with us in the WSL.”

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Phillips has now added five new players to her squad this summer. Pauline Bremer, Vicky Losada, Madison Haley, Mackenzie Hawkesby and Rule have all completed moves to the Sussex club.
