Barclays Women’s Championship club Reading have completed the permanent signing of defender Caitlin Smith on a free transfer.
The Royals announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
Smith joins Reading after spending time combining playing football with her studies in the United States. The defender represented the Clemson Tigers during her time Stateside. The player previously spent her youth on the books of both Southampton and Chelsea.
After returning to the UK, the 20-year-old is now ready to test herself in the senior game with new club Reading.
After joining The Royals, Smith said “I am excited to play in a league where my technical abilities will be tested more. I hope I can develop my technical ability during my time at Reading.
“Our goal is to get promoted back into the Super League. I just want to be the best teammate I can be for the girls and keep pushing myself to try and break into that first team.”
Smith has become Reading’s second signing of the day. The Royals boss Liam Gilbert also added Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Lulu Jarvis to his squad on a season-long loan arrangement this morning.
